Industry News: Flow Sports Aquires SIC | SUP Magazine

Flow Sports, Inc. Announces the Acquisition of Premiere SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) Brand ?SIC?(Sandwich Islands Composites).

SAN CLEMENTE, CA, July 26, 2012? Flow Sports announces that it has acquired the legendary SUP board brand SIC. SIC has made its mark in the SUP scene over the years by being the most winning open-water and down-wind race board brands in the world. Flow acquired the brand from SUP pioneer Mark Raaphorst who started the brand in 2005. Raaphorst will continue with the company as the designer, shaper and mastermind behind all future product designs. The acquisition marks the move from a purely ?custom? brand to one that will now offer its winning race, fitness/touring and surf designs in molded composite and lightweight semi-custom constructions. Custom boards will continue to be offered directly from the SIC R&D facility, which will continue to be operated by Raaphorst from the Haliimaile facility in Maui, Hawaii. SIC will make its global debut at the Outdoor Retailer show in Utah in August, Interstyle in Yokohama Japan and Surf Expos ? Orlando, Florida in September, and Paddle Expo ? Nuremberg, Germany in September.

According to SIC founder Mark Raaphorst, ?Flow Sports understands the water and paddle sports culture. Flow was originally a division of Neil Pryde Limited, makers of brands like NEILPRYDE and JP Australia windsurfing and Cabrinha kiteboarding brands. They have the personnel; infrastructure and financial resource that will help my dream of bringing SIC to paddlers around world a reality. Furthermore, I am now freed up so that I can to focus my efforts and do what I do best- design, test, refine and perfect new shapes. Our new line is simple but diversified and will continue to offer products for elite and recreational paddlers alike?.

Anthony Scaturro, President and CEO of Flow Sports, Inc., added, ?It is a natural fit for our growing brand portfolio. We have scoured the world in search of a brand that would complement Flow Snowboarding in brand DNA. SIC and Flow are driven by a passion, unique creativity and an unyielding dedication to innovation. SIC domination in open water racing, yet its versatility for performance recreation, is what convinced me that we have found the diamond in the rough. Together we will now make these exclusive boards available to paddlers world-wide.?
